Training Day with Macca and Pete on Sydney’s Northern Beaches enjoyed by all

On Sunday 30th January a group of eager age group triathletes converged on Sydney’s Northern beaches to spend the day training with two of the world’s best triathletes – Chris “Macca” McCormack and local identity Pete Jacobs.

The blue sky summer’s day started with a leisurely ride along the coast to Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park. Here participants were given a briefing on what to focus on when riding before being taken through one of Macca’s key strength training sets.

Back at Northside Runners in Manly, athletes grabbed a quick morning tea coutesy of Shotz Nutrition before hitting the Pacific ocean for an open water swim session. The warm up included a swim from Manly beach to Shelley beach and rumour has it that more time was spent watching the wildlife below than the pro’s! Once at Shelley beach, Macca and Pete had everyone’s attention as they took the group through a re-enactment of the swim in Kona late last year and showed everyone a trick or two to help with their swim leg.

Lunch provided eveyone with a good laugh and a chance for some Q&A with the two boys. Once rested, the afternoon included a run technique session, some transition tips and a chance to trial the Altitude Training System – even PJ was seen to be giving it a go!

Of course no BPM-Sport camp would be complete without the “Camp Awards”and thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, particpants received a prize from Trix-Gear, Northside Runners, Shotz Nutrition, the Australian Triathlete Magazine or Macca himself.
