Pete Jacobs Coaching and Charity in Singapore
Whilst in town for the Aviva Singapore 70.3, Pete Jacobs put his TYR coaching hat on to pass on some of his top tips and training secrets to a number of lucky triathletes, whilst raising funds for the victims of the recent floods in QLD, Australia, as well as earthquakes in Christchurch and Japan.
The first fund raising session was a swim squad with Pete where participants were given a number of tips to help make them more efficient and come out of the water fresher. Post race, many mentioned that they had used the tips and were happy with their swim result despite the tough co
nditions.
Thanks to the generosity of Pete and participants on the night, close to $1000 was raised which will be evenly split between charities for the QLD floods and Christchurch earthquake.
As in previous years, BPM-Sport teamed up with our good friends at ANZA Cycling to co-host the post Ironman 70.3 “Party with the Pro’s”. This year, ANZA Cycling members were lucky to share a burger with Team TBB athletes, Rachel Paxton, Scott Neyedelli and of course our very own Pete Jacobs. Some of the pro’s donated items for the charity auction including in some cases the shirts off their back! Several thousand dollars was raised on the evening for the victims of the Japanese earthquake/tsunami and BPM-Sport would like to thank the generosity of Pete’s sponsors Lazer Helmets and TYR for their prize packs and the Team TBB for donating items to be auctioned on the night. There were certainly plenty of laughs had on the evening, while raising much needed dollars for Japan.
BPM-Sport has made an additional donation to get the total funds raised for these worthy causes over the $5,000 mark. If you can help out in any way please do so. Every little bit helps.
Following on from a successful swim squad, a few lucky athletes were also able to spend an hour with Pete in a private clinic where they were given individual attention and feedback on their swim stroke. One participant told us after the session that they learnt more in the 90 minutes with Pete than they had with their current swim coach in 2 years! Luckily that coach does not work for BPM-Sport…Phew! The BPM-Sport Singapore based coaches even managed to squeeze in some sessions with Pete to hone our skills, so look out for some new tricks at upcoming swim squads!
Pete’s final coaching session was a sold out run technique session where 20 participants were able to learn a few pointers from the man who posted the fastest run split at Kona in 2010 and has the 3rd fastest time in the races history. Close to 1.5 hours passed with everyone listening intently and focusing on what Pete had to say before an open Q&A session at the end.
On behalf of Pete Jacobs, BPM-Sport would like to pass on his thanks to everyone who attended sessions with him and he wishes you all the very best with your upcoming races – a sentiment echoed by us at BPM-Sport.
Stay tuned for your next chance to experience training with some of the world’s best professional triathletes.
